The Forensic Medicine Program (started as the Domestic Violence Healthcare Project) helps victims of violence receive quality hospital-based services and a thorough investigation of the crime.  Our mission is to increase community safety through a strong continuum of hospital-based domestic violence and sexual assault services that help victims become safer and deal with the trauma; and quality forensic assessment, evidence collection and documentation of criminal evidence that may be used to hold perpetrators of violent crimes.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Forensic Medicine Program is a partnership between United Family Services Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Programs, Carolinas Healthcare System, Novant Healthcare (Presbyterian), Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Mecklenburg County Court System, Queens University of Charlotte and Central Piedmont Community College. The program was developed in 2003 as a collaborative of parties who had mutual concerns about services for victims of violent crime and forensic medicine education and practice in our community.
